Flagpole Phases 2 & 3
Flagpole install

(L) Alan had to get the Stockham pros to properly install the new pole. Ron Stoll and Terry Putnam of Maquoketa did the guiding while from atop the high fork lift Steve Rossmann from Preston - aka “The Roz” - set the and aligned the pole. (R) Then shims were placed between the pole and the core sides to assure the alignment and then sand poured in to make it permanently vertical.

PHASE 3

(L) Steve Rossmann, as Batman, goes high again to attach the lanyard hardware. Then after he inspected his work and was satisfied it was done right ole Steve could not resist a trial flying of the national flag. (R) Ron Stoll and Terry Putnam join “The Roz” and all was good.

Thus ended Phase 2.

Alan’s task in this phase was to build a concrete patio of his design at the base of the flagpole. He got a retired

volunteer retired concrete contractor, Bob Earls of Maquoketa, to help guide this phase. He also got an army from the DeWitt-Eldridge-Dixon area LDS Church including Blake and Sharon Buttars - mom and dad, Paul and Peter Trainor, Jake Onken, Boyd Pace, and Steve Frogley. He also got some Steve Flynn Century Concrete.

Patio Crete Forms

5. The Crete Brigade. You don’t always have the modern tools but Alan was prepared.

Patio Crete Earles2

3. Master Earls teaches Alan and the others to work crete.

Patio Crete Gang3

6. Under the ‘Earles Eye’ the crete was laid to the end.

Patio Crete Done

7. (L) Alan’s sense of accomplishment sets in after a hard job well done. It will be 3 weeks curing before the crete is ready for the pizzaz phase of his design. That was to require another professional and the Master Gardeners - and Winter was soon coming.

Thus ended Phase 3
