Guru, Jim Currant. As our volunteer work subsides, would be remiss in not recognizing some serious participation by ‘ye ole master’, Jim Currant. Jim is a guru of all trades and a specialist in carpentry, walls, and about everything else. He is one of those rare people whose craft skills are complete and who can produce a superior quality job in whatever he undertakes. Jim was the source of a great deal of advice, thought, and creativity as our volunteers struggled to restore the Proud Lady. Jim holds court each morning in his Santa Claus-like workshop in Maquoketa but was always more than willing to come to our project site to look at things and make sure the advice he would give would be right. BUT every now and again ole Jim would show up to make sure that we did it the way he instructed us to do it. Though largely invisible to the public eye, Jim was a major contributor to our project.
Every volunteer project needs a wise and skilled man like Jim. And with age he’s only gotten better. A lot of folks have opinions but Jim KNOWS. Without him we would still be struggling. He wasn’t paid a cent. But his donation of time and talent put him with the our top contributors. In terms of value, he was priceless. But if you asked Jim, he’d humbly tell you he didn’t do much. WE know better.
